What is Oîkos?

The Oîkos Ensemble has performed in faith communities around the country leading imaginative liturgies and inspirational concerts. For almost twenty years, the Rev. Clifford Aerie and the ensemble have been acknowledged as innovators in creative ministry and worship renewal.

Oîkos is the Greek word for “Home.” In the New Testament it refers to the building of a spiritual household and is the root for the words, economy (stewardship of resources), ecumenism (unity in diversity), and ecology (caring for God’s creation). Built on this foundation the band shares music and stories to change the world.

Oîkos offers a variety of ways to inspire worshippers and audience:

  • Jazz Worship—transformative Sunday morning worship and evening vesper services that feed the soul, lift the heart, and sow seeds for spiritual renewal.
  • Sacred Concerts—creative performances during the liturgical year: Jazz Noel, Good Friday Blues, Earth Walk, Pentecost Imaginarium, and more.
  • Blessings on the Journey—jazz and storytelling affirming our spiritual journeys and exploring our connection with sisters and brothers in the global village.
